The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) issued a stern warning on Wednesday, signaling a potential ban on Royal Air Maroc’s local operations. This move stems from the carrier’s persistent neglect of Nigerian travelers and repeated breaches of consumer protection guidelines.
Michael Achimugu, the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, highlighted the airline’s history of mishandling luggage, failing to assist passengers, and ignoring formal complaints. Despite facing penalties in 2025 for similar offenses, the airline has failed to enact significant operational improvements.
Achimugu criticized the airline’s leadership for unprofessional conduct, noting that Country Manager Ahmed Boussouf has repeatedly skipped mandatory regulatory meetings in Abuja. He described the airline’s response to these summons as insolent, citing a recent incident where the manager openly disregarded the authority’s requests.
The regulator stated that the NCAA, under the current administration, will not tolerate such non-compliance. Achimugu confirmed that his department is actively pursuing a suspension of Royal Air Maroc’s Nigerian flight permits until the company guarantees better treatment for its customers. He emphasized that international carriers must honor bilateral service agreements and uphold basic service standards for all passengers.
