Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has committed to stepping down if factual evidence confirms that her victory was influenced by electoral fraud. During an appearance on TVC News, she addressed accusations from rival candidates regarding the 2026 election, asserting that the electronic voting system was transparent and thoroughly monitored by the public.
Badejo-Okusanya highlighted that the voting data showed a steady, consistent trend without any suspicious spikes. She pointed out that the system updated every 10 seconds, allowing for real-time observation, and at no point did her lead waver or face an unexplained surge in votes. Addressing potential comparisons to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, she stated she has no interest in leading an association under the shadow of a questionable mandate.
Regarding allegations of bias, she clarified that the outgoing NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, never expressed a preference for her candidacy. Furthermore, she dismissed concerns that her personal connections to the current administration would undermine the independence of the NBA. She reiterated that her primary duty is to the members of the legal profession and the mandate they provided.
Looking ahead, Badejo-Okusanya intends to focus her tenure on increasing the professional value of the NBA to its members while firmly upholding the rule of law. She envisions the association acting as a robust protector of justice and a reliable guardian for those who are unable to defend their own interests.
