Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, has repeatedly turned down requests to apologize to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage after sharing a photograph on social media. The image depicted a person in a t-shirt featuring a guillotine and a reference to Nigel Farage.
Zia Yusuf, representing Reform UK, characterized the post as a potential call for violence and an incitement to murder. While the post was reported to the Metropolitan Police, Polanski noted he has not been approached by authorities regarding the matter.
During an appearance on BBC Newsnight, Polanski maintained that the sharing of the photo was an accidental error. He stated that he did not examine the text on the garment before the collaboration, initially focusing only on the celebratory nature of the images. He further criticized Farage for allegedly framing the situation dishonestly by cropping the photo to imply personal intent.
Polanski asserted that he would not issue an apology that could be used by Farage to escalate the situation further. Instead, he emphasized his opposition to political violence and expressed concern that the discourse surrounding the post has placed him in personal danger. Reform UK has formally requested that the Greater London Authority investigate whether Polanski violated the code of conduct for elected officials.
