The Nasarawa State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially started an indefinite and total strike. Zubairu Loko, the chairperson for the local chapter, confirmed the action following a meeting held on Monday.
This industrial action stems from the federal government’s failure to enact the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. Furthermore, various local concerns regarding the welfare and working conditions of academic staff remain unaddressed. The union stated that they attempted multiple rounds of discussions with management and relevant officials, but these efforts failed to produce results.
Before moving forward with this protest, the branch secured necessary authorization from the union’s national leadership. The association emphasized that institutions must honor signed contracts, arguing that the strike is a necessary step to ensure that agreements are respected and fully executed.
