Mystery Surrounds Death Of Woman Found Inside Miami Dollar Tree Freezer
A quiet Sunday morning in Miami took a grim turn after a woman was discovered dead inside a freezer at a Dollar Tree store, prompting an ongoing police investigation.
Officers responded to the store at 968 SW Eighth Street around 8 a.m. after an employee stumbled upon the body. Authorities later identified the woman as 32-year-old Massiell Garay Sanchez.
According to police, Sanchez entered the store alone the previous night and did not purchase anything. Investigators believe she wandered into a restricted, employee-only section of the store where the freezer is located and remained there overnight. She was found unresponsive the following morning when staff returned to the area.
Police confirmed that Sanchez was not a Dollar Tree employee. A GoFundMe page created by her family revealed she was an anesthesiologist, a mother of two, and originally from Nicaragua. The fundraiser aims to cover the cost of returning her body to her home country.
While the circumstances of her death remain unclear, authorities say there are no signs of foul play and have ruled out the possibility that she was forced into the freezer. The case is currently being treated as an unclassified death.
Customers arriving at the store expressed shock and sorrow after learning what had happened. Family members were seen outside the premises, waiting anxiously as detectives worked through the scene. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office later arrived to transport the body for further examination.

The store, which was meant to open at 8 a.m., remained closed for several hours and reopened around 1 p.m. after police completed their on-site investigation.
Miami police say they are speaking closely with Sanchez’s family and are also exploring whether personal or mental health challenges may have played a role. No further details have been released at this time.
In a brief statement, Dollar Tree acknowledged the incident, saying it was cooperating fully with authorities and extending its condolences to the family of the deceased.
