Following Morocco’s tense penalty shoot-out victory against the Netherlands in the 2026 World Cup, celebrations in The Hague turned into a series of violent police interactions. The match, which concluded at Monterrey Stadium, saw Morocco advance to the round of 16 after a 1-1 draw ended with Ismael Saibari scoring the final penalty kick.

In the Schilderswijk area, supporters gathered to celebrate, blocking roads and cheering while draped in national flags. The atmosphere shifted when riot officers arrived, utilizing water cannons and batons to disperse the crowd. Journalists observed approximately twelve arrests during the operation, with officers detaining individuals who had gathered in the streets. While police patrolled on bicycles to manage the situation, there were no reports of significant property destruction. Many participants in the streets chose to remain anonymous, concealing their faces while declining requests for interviews.
