Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has expressed his outrage regarding the murder of a teacher named Ummulkhairi. The victim was fatally attacked by a crowd in Mararaban Jos, located on the Kaduna-Zaria highway, after being wrongly accused of child abduction this past Sunday.
El-Rufai described the incident as a horrific display of cruelty, noting that the victim was simply seeking directions for a lecture. He emphasized that the act remains a deep stain on the public conscience, asserting that allegations lacking proof can never excuse mob brutality. The lawmaker highlighted that the woman was killed without due process, despite the reported presence of security officers who failed to intervene effectively.
Addressing the broader issue of vigilantism, El-Rufai warned that society cannot function when individuals bypass the legal system based on rumors and misinformation. He urged security agencies to perform a comprehensive investigation and hold all perpetrators, as well as any negligent officials, accountable. He concluded by calling for urgent preventive measures to stop the growing trend of mob violence, while offering his condolences to the family of the deceased.
