Military Thwarts ISWAP Raid in Borno, Seizes Foreign-Linked Camcorder

Military forces in Borno repelled an ISWAP attack, seizing a camcorder that revealed the presence of foreign terrorist facilitators among the insurgent ranks.

Soldiers from the 19 Brigade, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, successfully defended the Cross Kauwa community in Borno State from an ISWAP militant assault. The conflict broke out late Saturday night when insurgents tried to surprise the military post, but the forces intercepted them with heavy fire, compelling the militants to flee.

Capt. Mohammed Goni, the acting spokesperson for Operation HADIN KAI, stated that the insurgents appeared to be targeting medical supplies meant for cholera treatment. Intelligence reports suggest the group is struggling with a cholera outbreak, which has reportedly led to internal executions. During the firefight, troops killed a militant cameraman and retrieved a Sony camcorder. Forensic review of the device revealed footage of the operation and confirmed the involvement of three foreign operatives: a Palestinian trainer named Abu Ishaq, a Moroccan doctor identified as Abu Thaiba, and an unnamed Arab facilitator.

In addition to the recording equipment, the military recovered ammunition and militant gear. While two soldiers sustained injuries during the engagement and were moved to a hospital by air, they remain in stable condition. The military continues to conduct search operations in the region and remains committed to neutralizing terrorist activities in the North-East.
