Nigerian security forces conducted a series of operations over the past week, successfully rescuing 42 kidnapped individuals, neutralizing 8 terrorists, and apprehending 28 suspects. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed these achievements and noted that two illegal crude oil refining operations in the Niger Delta were dismantled.
Military actions spanned across various regions. In the North East, troops from Operation Hadin Kai captured several terrorist logistics suppliers, surrendered family members, and rescued numerous civilians, including women and children held near Gwoza. Meanwhile, Operation Fansan Yamma in the North West neutralized three terrorists across Kebbi and Zamfara states while securing several abducted residents, including Mahadi Haruna, who was returned to his family.
In the North Central region, Operation Savanna Shield and Operation Enduring Peace teams rescued various victims from kidnappers in Niger, Plateau, and Kogi states. Notably, military forces rescued a school principal, a NECO official, and two students in Dekina, Kogi State. Operations also led to significant weapons seizures, including various rifles and submachine guns. In the South East and Niger Delta, forces tackled economic sabotage and kidnapping syndicates, recovering stolen vehicles and suppressing criminal activities in Rivers, Abia, and Edo states.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, praised the coordinated efforts of the military and security agencies. He specifically highlighted the successful rescue of 44 pupils and teachers in Oyo State who had spent 56 days in captivity. The military leadership continues to urge citizens to provide actionable intelligence to help restore national security.
