Soldiers belonging to Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully saved 27 individuals from captivity during ongoing anti-terrorism missions in Northwest Nigeria. Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the spokesperson for the operation, confirmed that forces also prevented further kidnappings while seizing stolen livestock and motorcycles across Sokoto and Zamfara.
On July 20, 2026, military personnel from Shagari and Sifawa bases launched an operation in the Wanke and Kaura regions of Sokoto State. During a confrontation at Kaura, soldiers used superior tactical force to drive away militants, resulting in the rescue of six hostages and the retrieval of various items. These individuals were quickly returned to their loved ones.
Additionally, on that same day, troops stationed at Gandi joined forces with the State Security Community Guard Corps to assist ten victims who had managed to flee their captors. These individuals, which included adults and children, were located in the Badanma forest area and later safely handed over to local community leaders.
By July 21, 2026, members of Combat Team 12 intervened after receiving alerts about a roadblock on the Gummi–Sokoto highway intended for passenger abductions. The soldiers chased the criminals, freeing 11 hostages and capturing a motorcycle used in the raid. The Theatre Command praised the unit for their quick action and expressed gratitude to the public for providing the intelligence necessary to dismantle these criminal operations.
