Soldiers from Operation HADIN KAI have successfully neutralized two improvised explosive devices and performed widespread security sweeps across Borno State. These efforts are part of a seasonal campaign intended to restrict the mobility of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.
Zagazola Makama, a security expert specializing in the Lake Chad basin, reported that these missions took place on July 21 under the banner of Operation DESERT SANITY V. The action involved a joint effort between military personnel and local volunteer fighters.
During a patrol along the Damboa–Bulabulin–Kumala route, members of the 19 Battalion and 25 Brigade Garrison identified and detonated two roadside bombs. This intervention successfully averted a potential threat to both military convoys and local travelers. While the forces encountered a suspected logistics provider for the insurgents, the individual managed to escape.
In a separate simultaneous movement, a combination of soldiers and volunteers conducted patrols through various locations, including Diwa, Liya, and Bam. While this sweep uncovered no insurgent camps or direct combat encounters, it served to strengthen government control over the area. Military officials confirmed that these ongoing operations are vital for protecting supply corridors and preventing militant groups from reclaiming territory during the rainy season.
