Micah Richards, the former England player, has adjusted his tournament prediction and now considers France the prime candidate to secure the 2026 World Cup title. The French squad, led by Didier Deschamps, recently concluded their group matches with a dominant 4-1 victory against Norway. Under Deschamps, the team previously claimed victory in 2018 and reached the final in 2022.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards admitted his previous preference for Spain has changed after witnessing France’s unique ability to elevate their performance. He noted that while teams like Argentina, Morocco, and England have shown strength, France possesses an unmatched capacity to perform at a higher level when necessary. France is scheduled to compete against Sweden in the round of 32 on June 30 in New York, with a possible meeting with Germany in the following round.
