Former Bristol City forward Marvin Brown has passed away at the age of 42 after a battle with terminal bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma).
Brown died early Monday after being moved to end-of-life care at home over the weekend. His health had declined in recent years following a series of medical challenges, including ulcerative colitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and colon cancer, which he was treated for in 2022.
In a tribute posted on X, Bristol City said:
“We were saddened to hear of the passing of Marvin Brown, aged 42. Marvin joined the Bristol City Academy at the age of eight and became the club’s youngest-ever player at just 16 years and 71 days in September 1999. During his time with us, he also represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level before moving to Forest Green Rovers in 2004.”
His brother, Aaron Brown, also paid an emotional tribute on Instagram, writing:
“Today I said goodbye to my little brother and best friend, Marvin. Your fight is over, and while I take comfort in knowing you’re no longer in pain, my heart is broken without you. You were everything a brother could wish for — kind, calm, ambitious, and always putting others first. You had a rare gift for making people feel seen and loved. We’ll miss your laugh and your wit. I’ll love you forever — until we meet again, bro.”
After leaving Bristol City in 2004, Brown played for several clubs across the lower leagues, including Forest Green Rovers, Tamworth, Yeovil Town, Weston-super-Mare, Salisbury City, and Truro City, before retiring from football in 2012.

A talented youth international, he represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 levels, earning recognition for his composure and skill on the pitch from an early age.
