Marvel Studios and Disney have announced new release dates for the next big Avengers movies. Avengers: Doomsday has been postponed from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will now hit theaters on December 17, 2027, instead of May 7, 2027. The delay gives directors Joe and Anthony Russo additional time to complete Doomsday, which is currently filming in London.
While plot details remain under wraps, the star-studded cast unveiled in March includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and many more, featuring a blend of classic and newer Marvel heroes and villains.
Fans will have to wait a bit longer for this highly anticipated superhero ensemble.
Last summer, Marvel Studios confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom (despite his longtime character Iron Man dying in Avengers: Endgame). “If we’re going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen — he is one of the most complex characters, most entertaining characters in all of fiction,” Joe Russo explained at Comic Con 2024. “If we’re going to do this… then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.” Downey Jr. added, “Same mask, new task.”
The Next Marvel Studios Release: Fantastic Four: First Steps Hits Theaters July 25
Before Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars arrive, Marvel fans can look forward to Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to premiere on July 25. This film marks the first big-screen introduction to the new Fantastic Four lineup, featuring Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.
The movie also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as the villainous Galactus, promising an epic cosmic adventure ahead of the upcoming Avengers events.
