Manhattan prosecutors withdraw remaining rape charge against Harvey Weinstein

New York prosecutors have opted not to retry Harvey Weinstein on a rape charge after his accuser indicated she no longer wishes to proceed with another trial.

Authorities in New York have officially decided against moving forward with a fourth attempt at prosecuting Harvey Weinstein regarding a specific rape allegation. The legal proceedings for this particular case were previously attempted three separate times, ending in an overturned conviction and two instances of a deadlocked jury.

While this specific charge is being abandoned, the former film producer remains imprisoned due to other sexual felony convictions upheld in both New York and California. District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr stated that the decision followed consultations with the accuser, hair stylist and actor Jessica Mann, who expressed a desire to avoid the burdens of a new trial. In a public statement, Bragg emphasized that the office remains confident in the credibility of Mann’s testimony.
