Manchester City Nears £17 Million Agreement for Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s Replacement

Manchester City is finalizing a deal worth over £17 million to bring in Enzo Maresca as the successor to Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City is nearing the hiring of former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca to fill the managerial vacancy left by Pep Guardiola. Sources in Italy indicate that a compensation deal exceeding £17 million has been settled with Chelsea.

Reports from Sky Sports suggest that a verbal agreement is already in place. Maresca is anticipated to arrive in Manchester shortly to finalize a three-year deal. This move marks a return to the Etihad Stadium for the Italian, who served as an assistant to Guardiola during the club’s 2023 treble-winning season.

City entered into financial negotiations with Chelsea because Maresca still had over three years left on his contract when he departed Stamford Bridge earlier this year. Neither club has provided an official statement regarding the situation.

Maresca, who has been without a role since his departure from Chelsea, enjoyed significant success there, including winning the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. His deep understanding of the Manchester City system is viewed as the primary reason he was selected to succeed Guardiola, who exited the club in 2026 after a highly successful ten-year tenure.
