A significant warehouse fire in St Albans has forced the closure of the M25 in both directions between junctions 22 and 21A. Emergency personnel from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue are actively managing the scene at Ventura Park on Old Parkbury Lane in Colney Street.
National Highways officials confirmed the road closure, noting that 15 crews are working to contain the flames. Authorities warned of potential secondary explosions, as well as hazards from smoke and debris affecting the highway. As a precaution, local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors shut and stay away from the immediate area.
Hertfordshire Police verified that the closure is a direct result of the dense smoke emanating from the site. Additional local roads, including Old Parkbury Lane and Colney Street, have also been restricted. Because the facility is situated near a railway, a representative from Network Rail is coordinating with fire officials.
Commuters are experiencing delays of roughly one hour in both directions. Travelers should plan for substantial travel extensions or seek alternate routes until the situation is resolved.
