LP Calls for Investigation into Lagos Secretariat Attack.
The Labour Party in Lagos State has called on the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the attack on its secretariat on Monday.
Lagos LP Chairperson, Mrs. Dayo Ekong, made the appeal during a news conference at the secretariat on Tuesday, where she was joined by other members of the state executive committee.
She explained that the attack took place while principal officers were in Abuja attending the party’s National Executive Council meeting on the same day.
“We urge President Bola Tinubu, Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun, and the State Security Director to urgently intervene in this matter,” Ekong appealed.
Ekong confirmed that the five staff members who were injured are currently receiving medical treatment and are showing positive signs of recovery.
She stated that the armed thugs employed deadly weapons, charms, and ritualistic items to rob and vandalize the offices of key party officials.
“They destroyed furniture and fittings, carted away valuables worth hundreds of millions, and stole both local and foreign currencies kept in the offices,” Ekong added
She alleged that the motive behind the attack was to steal, harm, and possibly assassinate the party’s staff and leadership as part of the criminal act.
“We urge President Bola Tinubu, Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun, and the State Security Director to urgently intervene in this matter,” Ekong appealed.
Ekong emphasized that such behavior does not align with the values of LP and will not be tolerated under her leadership.
She stressed that LP is dedicated to serving patriotic Nigerians who are committed to building an equitable society based on the rule of law and social justice.
She condemned the act as criminal vandalism and armed robbery masked as politics, calling it a dangerous escalation.
Ekong declared that under the national leadership of Mr. Julius Abure and her chairmanship, there are no vacancies in any LP organ.
Echoing the chairperson’s remarks, Lagos LP Secretary Sam Okpala stated that the perpetrators must be held accountable to serve as a deterrent against future attacks.
