Liverpool are nearing an agreement to acquire Uruguay international Ronald Araujo from Barcelona on a season-long loan. The arrangement reportedly features a purchase option, with the defender anticipated to join the Merseyside club’s training camp within the coming days.
The 27-year-old centre-back, who served as Barcelona’s captain last season, played a significant role in securing three La Liga titles over the previous four campaigns. Although he is signed with the Spanish side until 2031, he struggled for consistent playing time recently, recording only 11 league starts as Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi became the favored central defensive duo. Since arriving from Boston River in 2018, Araujo has participated in over 200 matches for the club.
This move is part of Liverpool’s efforts to bolster their defensive options following the departure of Ibrahima Konate, who moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
