Leo Cullen will step down as head coach of Leinster following the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. This decision, announced by the province on Monday, will mark the end of his 12-year coaching tenure.
During his leadership, the 48-year-old former Ireland international secured six league titles, most recently defeating the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship final last Friday. Additionally, he coached the team to a European Champions Cup victory in 2018. Despite these successes, the club experienced losses in five subsequent European finals, including four over the last five years.
Cullen confirmed he will honour his remaining contract, noting that by 2027, he will have spent over three decades associated with Leinster as both a player and coach. He expressed that this timeframe feels appropriate for pursuing new professional opportunities.
Leinster CEO Shane Nolan commended Cullen’s significant contributions, highlighting his role in winning seven trophies during his time at the helm. The organization, alongside the IRFU, has initiated an immediate search for his successor to ensure a smooth transition.
