Joey Carbery to rejoin Leinster squad

Ireland fly-half Joey Carbery is set to return to Leinster for the 2026-27 season following a two-year tenure with Bordeaux-Begles.

Leinster Rugby has officially announced that Irish international Joey Carbery will be returning to the club ahead of the 2026-27 season. The 30-year-old fly-half, who has earned 37 caps for Ireland, arrives back after spending two seasons playing for Bordeaux-Begles in France, where he secured two Investec Champions Cup victories.

A product of the Leinster academy, Carbery previously played 37 senior matches for the province and was a key member of the side that achieved a Pro14 and Champions Cup double in 2018. Following his departure to Munster that same year, he helped that team secure the United Rugby Championship title in 2023. Carbery expressed excitement about his homecoming, noting his eagerness to integrate with the squad and contribute to the team’s goals.

Head coach Leo Cullen praised the return of the experienced player, noting that his recent years abroad have provided him with significant professional growth. The recruitment follows the recent move of Ciaran Frawley to Connacht, as Leinster looks to strengthen its roster for the upcoming campaign.
