Human rights attorney Maxwell Okpara has called for the immediate arrest of President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside Accountant-General Shamseldeen Ogunjimi and Head of the Civil Service, Esther Walson-Jack. This demand follows an ongoing investigation into a fraudulent agency scandal.
During an appearance on Arise Television this past Tuesday, Okpara argued that no government official is exempt from legal consequences. He pointed to the fact that the illegitimate agency was provided with office space and an official bank account, questioning how such actions occurred without high-level complicity.
While the police are currently detaining Adeyemi Adeniyi, who is identified as the primary suspect in the case, Okpara insists that authorities must apply the same standard to the high-ranking officials named in the probe. Although the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has already questioned Gbajabiamila, Okpara maintains that merely inviting them for statements is insufficient. He contends that since none of these officials possess constitutional immunity, they should face formal arrest just as the principal suspect has.
