Kano APC dismisses claims of mass defections to NDC

The Kano APC has refuted claims that members in Kumbotso defected to the NDC, dismissing the reports as propaganda from the Kwankwasiyya movement.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has officially dismissed reports suggesting that members from the Kumbotso Local Government Area have abandoned the party for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Auwalu Soja, the party’s publicity secretary, labeled these claims as fabricated, asserting that the party maintains a firm hold on its membership in the region.

Soja stated that those paraded as defectors hold no standing within the local APC leadership. He emphasized that the rank and file are fully supportive of President Bola Tinubu, citing significant infrastructure progress such as the AKK gas pipeline and the rail projects linking Kaduna to Kano and Maradi. Furthermore, party members expressed approval of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s efforts to stimulate the local economy and improve job prospects in the area.

Addressing the Kwankwasiyya movement directly, Soja advised the group to stop disseminating false information and instead address their own internal conflicts. He urged the public to disregard online rumors regarding the defections, insisting the party structure remains fully operational and unified.

In contrast, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, a representative for the Kwankwasiyya movement, maintained that the party’s claims are inaccurate. He argued that shifts from the APC to the NDC are occurring regularly throughout Kano and cited visual evidence from recent political gatherings as proof of their momentum.
