League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland Denies Connection to New Fundraising Campaign

The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has publicly disowned a parallel organization’s fundraising activities, labeling them as deceptive attempts to impersonate the established 1964 body.

The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has formally disassociated itself from a separate group attempting to establish an alternative organization under a similar name. In a public statement released Wednesday in Ibadan, the group labeled the rival efforts as a deceptive attempt to mislead the Muslim community.

Signed by the organization’s president, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere, who also serves as the Chief Imam of Ekiti State, the document clarifies that the original body was founded in 1964 by Sheikh Adam Abdullahi Al-Ilory and other regional leaders. The leadership stressed that they have no involvement in the current fundraising initiatives or launch events being promoted by these individuals.

The statement emphasizes that the league maintains its original focus on promoting Islamic brotherhood and regional harmony. They condemned the unauthorized use of their name and reputation for personal agendas, noting that such actions threaten the unity of the faithful in the South-West of Nigeria.
