The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is calling on the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) to push back the June 30, 2026, Company Income Tax (CIT) filing deadline by one month. This request follows significant technical glitches on the newly introduced Rev360 tax portal, which prevented numerous organizations from submitting their tax returns.
Dr. Chinyere Almona, the Director General of the LCCI, stated that the system experienced extensive downtime throughout the deadline day, resulting in login issues and failed submissions. She emphasized that these errors were caused by platform limitations rather than taxpayer negligence. She argued that implementing a new digital tax framework shortly before a major deadline was bound to cause operational strain during high traffic periods.
To mitigate the impact on businesses, the LCCI has proposed three specific measures: granting a one-month extension for CIT filings, canceling penalties for firms that tried to file by the deadline, and boosting the technical stability of the Rev360 system. Dr. Almona noted that immediate action is necessary to alleviate business concerns and avoid future disputes over technical failures.
