The Lagos State Government has introduced the ‘Snacks for Thought’ initiative, a pilot phase of the Adopt-A-School PBAT Feeds Programme designed to enhance pupil nutrition and academic performance while fostering private sector engagement in public primary schools.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially started the program at the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area. Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Governor emphasized that hunger should never prevent a child from learning. This collaborative effort represents a significant step within the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.
The Governor highlighted that the initiative is built on the core belief that students need adequate nutrition to attend school regularly and excel in their studies. Beyond student well-being, the program is expected to stimulate the local economy by supporting farmers, caterers, and food processors through the sourcing of local supplies.
Aligned with the state’s THEMES+ agenda, this project prioritizes human capital development alongside investments in infrastructure and teacher training. Governor Sanwo-Olu urged private entities, alumni, and individuals to adopt schools and contribute to this long-term investment in Nigeria’s future workforce.
To ensure transparency, the state has launched an ‘Adopt-A-School’ dashboard. This digital platform allows sponsors to select schools, track the program’s execution, and measure the real-time impact of their contributions. The government has mandated that relevant state agencies work closely with partners to ensure the initiative reaches its full potential.
