The Lagos State Government has pushed back the commencement date for its $3 billion Green Line rail project to December 2025.
The announcement was made on Monday, October 13, by Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi through a statement on the state government’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. Osiyemi had earlier indicated in April that the project would start before the end of 2024.
The 70-kilometre Green Line is expected to run from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, passing through Victoria Island, Ajah, Sangotedo, and the Lekki corridor. It will feature 17 stations and a combination of elevated and ground-level tracks. The entire project will be executed in phases over two to three years.
Osiyemi explained that the initial phase will cover the stretch from Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, while the second phase will begin at Marina and include an on-water section.
