Oluremi Tinubu Opens Up On Quiet Life In Aso Rock, Turns To Philanthropy And Podcasts
First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has revealed that life inside the Presidential Villa can feel “quite secluded,” a reality that pushed her to deepen her philanthropic and spiritual engagements with young women.
She made the disclosure in her 52-page memoir The Journey of Grace: Giving Thanks in All Things, launched to mark her 65th birthday. The book, spanning events between 2021 and 2025, documents her spiritual journey alongside her husband’s rise to the presidency.
According to Mrs. Tinubu, the quiet pace of the Villa inspired her to strengthen the Daughters of Zelophehad Ministries (DOZ), where she began recording podcasts tailored to young women and married women. Titled The Conversation, the short, simple episodes were designed to reach a generation she described as “easily distracted.” She said the outreach fulfilled a personal vow to God not to stop mentoring young women if her husband became president.
Beyond ministry, she highlighted her leadership of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a social intervention platform launched in July 2023. Through partnerships with state First Ladies, local community leaders, and the families of service members, RHI has focused on elderly care, scholarships, women’s empowerment, disability support, and grants for widows of fallen soldiers.
As Grand Patron of the National Council of Women’s Societies, Mrs. Tinubu said she ensured the group’s involvement in every programme, while also extending her work to the continental stage. At the 2023 UN General Assembly, she joined the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development and met with global counterparts, including U.S. First Lady Jill Biden.
Reflecting on these activities, she described them as a welcome escape from the seclusion of Aso Rock: “It was a great platform because I saw the hunger in these young women.”
