Lagos Police Protect 38 Foreigners from Mob and Initiate Immigration Inquiry

Lagos police rescued 38 foreign nationals from a potential mob attack in Epe and have opened an investigation into their immigration status.

Authorities in Lagos successfully saved 38 foreign individuals from a potential mob assault within the Epe district. Lagos Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani announced the development during a Tuesday press briefing at the Ikeja headquarters, noting that the rescue took place on June 17 to restore stability in the region.

The group consists of citizens from several nations, including Chad, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, and Ghana. During preliminary questioning, these individuals failed to justify their activities or reasons for residing in the area. Official records indicate that 20 of these individuals lacked legal entry documentation, while the remaining 18 possessed valid ECOWAS travel papers.

Currently, the State Criminal Investigation Department is processing the group. Commissioner Tijani stated that the police are working to identify any potential criminal ties before turning the individuals over to the Nigeria Immigration Service. The command is also coordinating with relevant embassies to ensure appropriate legal procedures are followed. Investigations remain active as police work to verify the circumstances of their arrival and determine if any immigration laws were breached.
