Lagos Police Detain 38 Foreign Nationals and Seize 14 Firearms

Lagos police arrested 38 foreign nationals in Epe for suspicious activities and illegal entry, while also recovering 14 firearms during a wider June crackdown on crime.

The Lagos State Police Command apprehended 38 foreign nationals in Epe after receiving intelligence regarding their suspicious presence in a local building. Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani confirmed the raid targeted individuals whose activities were unclear to authorities. The group included 14 Chinese nationals, nine Cameroonians, four Beninese, four Malaysians, two Togolese, and one Ghanaian.

CP Tijani noted that the detainees could not provide valid explanations for their business operations in Nigeria, with some vaguely claiming to work in networking. Investigations revealed that 20 of the individuals entered the country illegally, while 18 held valid ECOWAS travel documents. The case has been transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service and relevant embassies for further action. The commissioner confirmed that these arrests are separate from individuals recently seen in a viral video.

During broader operations throughout June, the command successfully recovered 14 firearms, 51 mobile phones, and various stolen items including vehicle engine control units and electrical cables. These efforts targeted crimes such as armed robbery, cultism, and vandalism. Commissioner Tijani emphasized that the force remains dedicated to maintaining security and urged the public to continue reporting criminal activity to help keep Lagos safe.
