Residents of Lagos State and parts of Ogun, including Sagamu, Ogijo, and Abeokuta, will face a daily power outage from July 28 to August 21, 2025, due to scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) confirmed that the outage will occur daily between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, affecting the entire Lagos metropolis and nearby Ogun communities.
ANED CEO, Sunday Oduntan, explained during a Monday appearance on TVC that the interruption is necessary for the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line. The upgrade is expected to enhance real-time grid monitoring via the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
Though the TCN noted that power will be restored after each day’s work, Ikeja Electric and Eko Disco have warned customers to expect intermittent outages and load shedding across their networks.
“This is a critical infrastructure upgrade approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator,” TCN said, emphasizing that the daily shutdown is for safety reasons.
Both electricity distributors issued apology notices and assured customers that efforts are in place to minimize disruption and that normal power supply will resume after the maintenance ends on August 21.
