Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, has issued an apology to the public regarding ongoing difficulties with waste management. He confirmed that the administration is actively working to resolve these concerns.
Sharing remarks originally made during an appearance on ARISE Television via his X account, Wahab stated that the state is shifting away from traditional linear disposal methods. Instead, the government is adopting a circular economy model, which repurposes refuse as a functional resource.
A key component of this transition includes a new food waste digester facility in Ikosi, which transforms organic matter into energy. This initiative, supported by C-40 funding, serves as a pilot project for the state’s long-term environmental strategy. Commissioner Wahab emphasized that these updates are essential for creating a cleaner urban environment and reinforcing the government’s promise to enhance public sanitation standards.
