Zamfara State Initiates Tree-Planting Program to Fight Desertification

Zamfara State has partnered with the Greener Space Foundation to launch a tree-planting campaign aimed at curbing desert encroachment and improving school environments.

The Zamfara state administration has officially commenced a reforestation drive designed to mitigate desert expansion, flooding, and various environmental issues. Abdulmalik Gajam, the Commissioner of Education, inaugurated the program at Government Day Secondary School in Gusau, the state capital. This project is a joint effort involving the ministry and the Greener Space Foundation Tree-Planting Initiative.

During the event, Commissioner Gajam planted the inaugural trees, emphasizing the dual goal of environmental restoration and the creation of healthier educational settings. The campaign, titled “Restoring Ecosystems, Building Greener Communities,” aims to address climate change impacts while enhancing school grounds with better air quality and natural shade.

Gajam praised the Greener Space Foundation for their collaboration and highlighted that environmental health is a shared duty. By improving the physical environment of schools, the government hopes to provide a better learning experience for students. The commissioner affirmed that the state remains dedicated to sustainable development and strengthening its educational infrastructure for future generations.
