Lagos Building Collapse Ends: 27 Survivors Found, Nine Dead

Search and rescue operations have concluded at a collapsed two-storey building in Lagos, resulting in 27 survivors and nine deaths.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has finalized rescue efforts at the site of a collapsed two-storey structure in Alakija Bus Stop, Satellite Town. The incident, which occurred at 12:47 p.m. on Thursday in the Amuwo-Odofin district, resulted in 27 survivors and nine confirmed fatalities.

Afolabi Olawale, the LASEMA Head of Public Affairs, noted that emergency teams reached the location within 40 minutes. Agencies assisting in the operation included the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Nigerian Police, the military, the Red Cross, and CCECC, which provided heavy-duty equipment to clear the debris.

All 27 rescued individuals were stabilized by the Lagos State Ambulance Service before being transported to hospitals. Tragically, four victims were already deceased upon the arrival of rescuers, while five others, including a two-year-old child, were located during the search. The bodies have been transferred to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

By 4:00 a.m. Friday, the site was cleared. In response, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered an immediate audit of neighboring buildings to ensure structural safety. Authorities are urging the public to contact the LASBCA or use the 112 and 767 emergency hotlines to report any buildings showing signs of distress.
