The Lagos State Police Command recently apprehended four individuals identified as members of the Aiye Confraternity in the Mushin district. This operation followed intelligence reports that implicated one of the men in a series of homicides occurring across the state.
SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, stated that the operation was initiated by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). The initial suspect, Irawo Moshod, confessed to previously serving as the leader of the Aiye Confraternity. Under questioning, Moshod admitted to participating in numerous murders throughout Mushin and surrounding regions.
Acting on the information provided by Moshod, police officers searched a location in Idi-Oro, where they seized a locally manufactured Beretta pistol and a live 9mm round. Subsequently, investigators arrested three additional suspects: Abayomi James, Farouq Bankole, and Steven Sunday. These individuals confirmed their affiliation with the Aiye gang and identified a senior member named Rilwan as the source of the recovered weapon.
CP Tijani Fatai, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, praised the VCRU for their intelligence-led efforts. He reiterated that the police are dedicated to breaking up criminal factions and protecting local citizens. The command has issued a stern warning to gang members, urging them to cease illegal activities, and has requested that the public report any suspicious behavior to emergency services.
