The Lagos State Government has alerted drivers on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to anticipate partial road blockages starting Tuesday, July 28. These disruptions will last for two weeks while the Federal Ministry of Works replaces the expansion joint at Kara Bridge to boost infrastructure longevity and safety.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced that a 1.5-kilometre section of the four-lane road will shrink to two lanes to create a secure environment for the construction crew. He requested that road users remain patient and follow the instructions of traffic officials stationed in the area.
Expect increased traffic near the Fatgbems Turn as some drivers seek bypasses or turn around to avoid the work zone. However, travel toward Ibadan past this point should remain relatively smooth. The timing coincides with the upcoming 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, which runs from August 3 to 9 and typically brings heavier volume to the expressway.
Officials recommend that travelers map out their routes in advance and utilize secondary roads when possible. The government maintains that these temporary inconveniences are essential to keep the bridge operational and safe for the public in the long run.
