La Liga Reschedules Season Openers for Real Madrid and Barcelona

La Liga has rescheduled season openers for Real Madrid and Barcelona due to player participation in the World Cup semi-finals.

Real Madrid’s initial La Liga fixture during Jose Mourinho’s return has been rescheduled. Originally set to face Real Sociedad, the club will now begin their campaign against Espanyol on August 22. The match against Sociedad has been shifted to August 26.

Defending champions Barcelona also face a delayed start. Their opening match against Athletic Bilbao is moved to August 27, meaning they will now open their season versus Elche on August 23.

League officials implemented these changes due to the involvement of several squad members from both clubs in the World Cup semi-finals. Atletico Madrid, despite having players participating in the same tournament, will proceed with their scheduled opener against Malaga on August 19.

The Spanish league season commences on August 15, featuring matchups between Alaves and Getafe, as well as Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano.
