Kwara State prohibits school end-of-year events citing security risks

Kwara State authorities have banned all end-of-session school ceremonies, including graduations, citing concerns regarding security and public order.

The Kwara State administration has officially outlawed all graduation, valedictory, and end-of-term celebrations across every public and private school in the region. This mandate was issued via a formal communication from Mrs. Bunmi Osanupin, a director representing the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, acting on behalf of Commissioner Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe.

The memorandum was directed to Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, the Chairman of the State Universal Education Board, and reached the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Ilorin. Officials cited the current security environment as the primary reason for the decision, noting the necessity of preserving safety and stability on school campuses.

School administrators, principals, and owners are mandated to adhere strictly to these rules. The government cautioned that any educational institution caught disobeying this order will face punitive measures as outlined by state regulations. All stakeholders have been instructed to acknowledge and follow this new policy.
