Authorities in Kwara State have verified that every resident captured during the February 3, 2026, raid on the Woro and Nuku villages in the Kaiama Local Government Area has been released. The administration shared this update on Wednesday via their official Facebook account, bringing closure to a period of deep concern regarding the 176 individuals taken during the violent incident.
In their statement, the government expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security personnel, and all contributors to this successful outcome. The mass abduction occurred when militants, believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram, descended upon the region on motorbikes and launched a sustained, tactical assault.
Initial accounts from the time of the attack reported that over 200 lives were lost, numerous civilians were wounded, and significant portions of local infrastructure were demolished, causing widespread displacement. Local defense groups who tried to counter the attackers were reportedly overpowered, with some trapped inside their headquarters as it was set ablaze. As of now, the government has provided no specific information regarding how the victims were freed or if any formal negotiations or rescue missions were involved.
