Suspected Bandits Attack Security Team Linked to Sunday Igboho in Oyo Forest

A security team associated with Sunday Igboho was ambushed by suspected bandits in the Old Oyo National Park, leaving multiple members injured during a counter-kidnapping operation.

A group of security personnel attached to the Yoruba Nation advocate Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, sustained injuries following an ambush by suspected bandits within the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State. The skirmish took place while members of Iru Ekun, the security unit affiliated with Igboho, were conducting a mission to locate and expel kidnappers and other armed groups hiding in the forest.

Reports indicate that the team utilized surveillance drones to track criminal activities before the situation escalated. As the operatives moved deeper into the park, they were fired upon by heavily armed individuals suspected to be part of an international criminal network. This led to a prolonged exchange of gunfire, resulting in injuries to several team members.

While the exact count of the wounded remains unverified, the clash has intensified worries regarding the prevalence of armed criminal gangs in South-West forest reserves. Local authorities, including the Oyo State Police Command, have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident, and attempts to reach the spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, were unsuccessful.
