The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) elders’ caucus has declined an invitation from a reconciliation committee established by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. The committee, led by Colonel Abdulwahab Lawal (retd), was formed to address internal disputes stemming from recent party primaries.
In a formal response dated July 11, 2026, the caucus explained that they cannot participate because their previous attempts at internal mediation were dismissed by the Governor and the state APC leadership. The group cited instances where formal letters were disregarded and noted a specific occasion where they waited at the Government House for three hours, only to be ignored by the Governor.
The caucus argued that the committee is an insincere effort established after the fact. They pointed out that since the Governor and party leadership are central to the current conflict, the committee violates the legal principle that no one should judge their own case. Consequently, the elders maintain that the committee lacks the authority to address these grievances effectively.
The statement, signed by Chairman Chief James Bamisaiye Ayenioye and General Secretary Abdulmumin Sidiq Katibi, reaffirmed the caucus’s ongoing loyalty to the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
