Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, believes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bolstered party support in Northern Nigeria by keeping Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 polls.
In a written statement released Saturday after the submission of nomination forms in Abuja, Kwankwaso noted that this move has reassured the party faithful. He emphasized that the decision thwarted those who had anticipated a replacement for the Vice President. Kwankwaso characterized the move as an ideal step for the region and the APC, arguing it fosters greater regional unity.
Highlighting Shettima’s performance, the APC chieftain credited him with championing Northern cohesion and effectively acting as a reliable proxy for the President on the global stage. He remains optimistic that the ticket will secure substantial voter backing across the North. Furthermore, Kwankwaso stated that this strategic alignment will likely lift the prospects for all APC candidates, including those vying for governorship and legislative seats in the upcoming general election.
