Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a stern ultimatum to political appointees in President Bola Tinubu’s government: actively champion the party’s cause or vacate your office. Yilwatda delivered this mandate on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum, headed by Dr. Mustafa Jibrin of Chanchaga Local Government Area.
Addressing the forum, Yilwatda rejected the notion that individuals can excuse themselves from political engagement by labeling themselves as technocrats. He insisted that accepting a political role carries an inherent duty to participate in the political process. Consequently, he empowered local government chairmen to scrutinize the contributions of appointees within their respective wards, noting that administrative efficiency alone is insufficient for success.
The party leadership emphasized that the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general elections rely heavily on grassroots presence. Yilwatda instructed council leaders to report any underperforming appointees who fail to bolster the party at the local level. To facilitate these efforts, the party pledged its full backing for the forum’s mobilisation initiatives, including the upcoming mass endorsement rally for President Tinubu’s re-election.
