Kano Administration Identifies Unsanctioned Buildings Including Azman University for Potential Razing

The Kano State government has flagged over 50 properties, including Azman University, for lacking proper documentation or being built in prohibited areas during a new enforcement initiative.

The Kano State government has officially identified over 50 properties, among them Azman University, for inspection as part of a statewide initiative to address unauthorized development. Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, Director General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), who heads the task force, stated that property owners must now verify their legal documentation or face potential consequences.

During a field operation on Tuesday, Sani clarified that the structures under scrutiny either lack valid ownership papers or sit in restricted zones. Prohibited locations include areas directly beneath high-tension power lines and designated drainage paths. The enforcement sweep covered various regions, including Maiduguri Road, Rijiyar Gwangwan, Ladi Makole, and Matar Fada road.

Under the initiative dubbed ‘Operation Show Your Document,’ authorities are offering owners a chance to prove the legitimacy of their buildings. Sani noted that those who provide authentic paperwork will face no penalties. He emphasized that the government is strictly enforcing building codes rather than targeting specific individuals, adding that the process applies to everyone regardless of social or political status.

Regarding Azman University, officials marked specific structures for review but allowed daily academic operations to continue. The university management is required to submit documentation for all facilities on the property, including an on-site filling station and various factories. Sani concluded by urging public cooperation, stating that these efforts are necessary to ensure a more organized and compliant urban environment for all citizens.
