The armed group responsible for kidnapping more than 30 residents of the Eruku community during a church service on Tuesday is reportedly demanding a massive ransom of N100 million for each hostage.
This information was disclosed on Thursday by family members who stated they were contacted directly by the assailants.
During the brutal attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, the bandits killed three people, seized over 30 worshippers, and stole various possessions from the church while the service was underway. sydney sweeney trump
Chief Olusegun Olukotun, the Olori Eta of Eruku, confirmed the ransom demand, noting that four members of his own family are among those abducted.
He recounted escaping the church with one relative by jumping through a window when the gunmen attacked around 6:06 p.m., while five relatives were initially with him.
Olukotun added that the captors have started contacting various families. He explained, “From what we gathered from the kidnappers’ camp, they have grouped the victims according to their relations and are now calling our people through each of the groups.”
While some community members have received calls demanding the N100 million per person, he is still awaiting contact regarding his own family members.
The community leader stressed the critical necessity for increased security presence in Eruku, which is a border town with Kogi State and frequently targeted by criminals.
He also appealed to the government to equip the local vigilante groups with contemporary defensive gear to effectively counter the attackers’ firepower.
