Police Foil Midnight Robbery Attempt In Sagamu, Recover Lexus Vehicle
The Ogun State Police Command says its operatives have foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area of the state, recovering the vehicle used by the suspects following a swift and coordinated response by officers attached to the Sakura Division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to her, at about 1:45 a.m., the command received a distress call through the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway, that about five armed hoodlums were attempting to break into a residence in the community.
Odutola said, “A smart intervention was immediately coordinated by operatives of Sakura Division, but on sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums fled in different directions, prompting a hot chase by the police.”
She added that the suspects’ operational vehicle a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT was recovered at the entrance of the community.

A search conducted on the car led to the recovery of fireworks (knockouts) suspected to have been intended for distraction during the planned operation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their professionalism and timely intervention, noting that the command had stepped up patrols and surveillance as part of its end-of-year security strategy.
He assured residents of sustained police visibility and proactive response to distress situations, urging the public to remain vigilant especially when returning home late at night.
Ogunlowo further advised homeowners to illuminate dark or isolated areas around their properties to deter criminal elements and encouraged citizens to follow the command’s verified social media channels for real-time updates and security alerts.
The command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
In a similar incident earlier in June 2025, the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun Corps) also foiled a robbery attempt in Akinale town, Ewekoro area, after responding swiftly to a distress call underscoring the growing effectiveness of joint security operations across the state.
