Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has greenlit a request from Nnaemeka Ikerionwu to settle the N25,000 penalty issued to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, for a parking violation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The dispute began after the minister demanded a public apology and payment from the former Anambra State governor, who had suggested during a podcast that he was being specifically targeted by authorities. To counter these assertions of harassment, the minister released security footage showing the specific parking infraction.
While Obi’s supporters previously labeled the situation as political persecution, the narrative shifted when Ikerionwu volunteered to pay the fine on the politician’s behalf. Keyamo instructed the individual to coordinate with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to finalize the payment.
Following the resolution, the minister criticized the politician, suggesting that his office effectively exposed the inaccuracies in Obi’s claims. Keyamo advised the presidential aspirant to exercise more caution before alleging targeted mistreatment to garner political favor, noting that the electorate is increasingly discerning.
