Kenneth Okonkwo Claims Peter Obi’s ADC Departure Harmed South-East Political Interests

Spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo argues that Peter Obi’s exit from the ADC hindered the South-East’s political leverage, leaving the party unable to secure preferred regional candidates due to electoral regulations.

Kenneth Okonkwo, who serves as the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, stated on Thursday that Peter Obi’s departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) resulted in the South-East region losing its political footing. During an interview on the Channels Television program Morning Brief, Okonkwo explained that the region was left in a state of disarray following Obi’s withdrawal.

Addressing inquiries regarding Rotimi Amaechi’s lack of social media support for the vice-presidential ticket, Okonkwo noted that a South-Eastern candidate was initially positioned to play a key role in the party’s strategy. However, that candidate’s early exit from the primary process caused significant complications. He highlighted that the Electoral Act prevented the party from selecting potential replacements like Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe or Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as they were not active party members within the mandatory 21-day window preceding the primary.
