Kebbi Police Apprehend Man for Alleged Desecration of Holy Qur’an

A 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, has been arrested in Kebbi State for allegedly burying a copy of the Qur’an as part of a fetish ritual to influence a woman.

Authorities in Kebbi State have taken 29-year-old Abubakar Musa into custody following accusations of desecrating the Holy Qur’an in the Zuru Local Government Area. Musa, who lives in Rafin Mose Village, faces charges related to conspiracy, religious misconduct, and the use of harmful practices intended to incite public disorder.

The incident took place on the evening of August 9, 2026. Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman stated that the investigation points to Musa working alongside two accomplices, Rabi’u Tela and Hamza Zango, both of whom have fled the area. Investigators claim the group buried a copy of the Qur’an beneath the floor of a woman named Zarau Hassan. This act, carried out with various fetish items including animal remains and bodily fluids, was allegedly an attempt to manipulate the woman into submission to her husband.

Police Commissioner Umar M. Hadejia stated that such actions jeopardize religious stability and will not be tolerated. Law enforcement continues to search for the remaining suspects while Musa remains detained as the investigation proceeds toward formal legal action.
