Katsina State Denies Funding Hajj Pilgrimages for Bandits

Katsina State officials have dismissed accusations that the government funded Hajj pilgrimages for criminals, labeling the claims as politically motivated misinformation.

The government of Katsina State has officially refuted accusations suggesting it provided Hajj sponsorship to criminal groups, labeling these reports as entirely inaccurate. Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, released an official statement on Wednesday to address the matter.

The controversy stems from remarks attributed to Bashir Kurfi, who suggested during a Trust TV broadcast that the state was financing Hajj trips for bandits. Mu’azu characterized these claims as fabricated and intended to deceive the public while weakening the ongoing security operations within the state.

According to the commissioner, these accusations surfaced while security forces, backed by the state administration, are achieving measurable progress against criminal elements. Mu’azu suggested that these claims are politically driven maneuvers meant to shift focus away from recent security successes. He also voiced frustration regarding the persistent politicization of security matters for personal or political gain.

Furthermore, Mu’azu asserted that some individuals are unhappy with the government’s decision to prevent public funds from being diverted into non-developmental schemes. He demanded that the accusers present tangible proof to substantiate their claims. The government has vowed to utilize legal avenues to preserve its reputation and hold those spreading misinformation accountable. Residents were encouraged to ignore these rumors and maintain their support for security initiatives aimed at restoring regional peace.
